Jeep CEO Bob Broderdorf says that the Jeep Recon will be revealed soon and go on sale next spring.

Stellantis has been pulling back hard on its EV plans, recently canceling a fully electric Ram 1500 full-size truck in favor of a range-extended hybrid, and pulling the plug on a plug-in hybrid version of the Gladiator midsize pickup. The automaker has also pulled back on versions of the Dodge Daytona electric muscle car, cancelling the base R/T trim and reportedly axing plans for a high-performance Banshee.
So, it was reasonable to speculate on the future of the 2026 Jeep Recon, an off-road electric SUV which has been delayed and has yet to be unveiled in production form. The plan initially was to show the final version of the SUV in 2023, ahead of production in 2024.
Rumors of its death are greatly exaggerated, according to Jeep CEO Bob Broderdorf. The Recon (a concept version is pictured) will be revealed soon and go on sale next spring, he said, and promises more information soon on the roughly Wrangler-sized EV that Jeep says will be able to tackle the Rubicon with the best of them.
Jeep says it's important to launch the Recon even if it doesn't prove to be a big seller. “We’ve got a great car. We’ve already built it. We should sell it, we should learn. I don’t know how many it will be. I’m not really that worried about it,” says the Jeep chief.

good find, thanks.
too bad for jeep that the people who most want this thing (on this site!) are so disillusioned that no one even notices or comments anymore.

I'm still excited, but I'm going to be cross shopping this with the Rivian R2 thats due out the same time as the Recon is now.
Amongst everything else, it's going to be a though market to compete in.

While I have a pre-order on an R2, I don’t expect it to be fulfilled until at least 2027 if not, 2028. So I really don’t think I’d be able to cross-shop at all. I have a feeling I’ll be able to walk on a lot and get a Recon pretty easily.

I was thinking about this. Everything is vague and saying “spring.” A dealer I don’t necessarily trust said maybe they’ll have more info in Feb. has anyone heard when orders will open from a trusted dealer, or when the first will arrive? I’m more interested in an Overland, but may just say screw it and get Moab

While Bob Broderdorf's comments might have been soothing at the time, they really haven't provided any reality. We are now firmly into spring 2026 and Recon has been pushed back yet again. At this point we're hoping it'll arrive as a 2027 model. And with Jeep recently canceling the Wagoneer S until at least 2027 due to poor sales, there is no guarantee we'll even see Recon then.

A lot of experts are still predicting a major "energy crisis" this summer as fuel prices continue to climb and in my opinion that's the only thing that may entice more interest in EVs and could be the thing that nudges Jeep to go ahead and get Recon to market.

As of this last week of April, however, it's not looking good.

I think this is all linked to the Cherokee being in high demand. The dealers near me can’t keep them on the lot, and I’ve seen more on the road in a few months than Wag S’s in 14 months.
So Jeep is really cranking out Cherokees to meet demand for a fuel efficient SUV. As they hit a level that allows them to slow production a bit, they’ll bring Recon on line. Given the poor marketing and lack of clear vision for Wag S, I just don’t think there’s any production capacity for 2026 in Toluca.
